Prepositions. Means of transport. By car, get on the bus
By/ on
When you are talking about different means of transport (train, plane, bus, shuttle, ferry…) you use the preposition by (en)
Example:
- The boys went to Guernsey
by ferry
- .
You use by with verbs like go, come, and travel.
However, when you walk to somewhere, you use the preposition on.
Example:
- The theatre is not far from here, you can go
on foot
- (a pie)
Get on/ get in(to)
You use get on/ off (subirse/ bajarse de) for means of transport such as: trains, buses, shuttles, planes, boats.
Example: Get on the bus
- and pay the ticket, please.
Get in(to)/ get out of
You use get in(to)/ get out of (entrar/ salir de) for: cars, taxis, lorries…
Example:
- She got in the car and left.
By/ on
Cuando hablamos de distintos medios de transporte (tren, avión, autobús, lanzadera, ferry…) usamos la preposición by (en)
Ejemplo:
- The boys went to Guernsey
by ferry
- .
Usamos by con verbos como go, come y travel.
Sin embargo, cuando vamos nos desplazamos andando, se usa la preposición on.
Ejemplo:
- The theatre is not far from here, you can go
on foot
- (a pie)

Se usa get on/ off (subirse/ bajarse de) para medios de transporte como: tren, autobús,lanzadera, avión, barco.
Ejemplo: Get on the bus

Se usa get in(to)/ get out of (entrar/ salir de) para: coche, taxi, camión…
Ejemplo:
